Ideas

Creating a book I thought was a very exciting thing but I knew I'd find it difficult to think of an idea and I wanted to make sure the idea I chose was something amazing. I found it very hard to think of something different and 'out of the box'; whatever I suggested to people, they didn't seem to like so I was getting into a bit of a panic. I found time was moving too quickly and I wasn't doing any work, all because I couldn't think of an idea then I remembered something I'd watched on tele a while ago.

I watched an episode of Mythbusters, it's a program were some guys try to either prove or bust myths, the title is kind of self explanitary really... well, one of the episodes has stuck in my head ever since. Some of the people off the show were throwing a fake dinner party but one had a special secret device stuck to his nose which released an invisable liquid, the liquid was released at the same pace as a runny nose would run with a cold, the liquid was mimicing snot and germs. This experiment was to show how quickly and rapidly germs spread from someone with a cold in an everyday normal situation. At the end of the dinner party they switched the lights off around the table and the areas where the liquid had reached lit up in a neon colour, I was fascinated with how much neon there was all over the guests and the dinner table so this inspired me as soon as i'd seen it to produce a photography project based around spreading germs using glow in the dark liquid and making up my own experiments. I thought the book would be a great way to actually do this project.

My second idea came to me when said something I used to say when I was quite a bit younger. This one little phrase made me think about mine and my brothers childhood so I dug out the old photos and took a trip to memory lane. I didn't think this would give me any ideas, I was simply just looking for entertainment purposes but then I realised as we age we lose our childlike characteristics such as always being happy, making fun out of anything... e.g a cardboard box, we lose our curiosity and our lack of interest towards problems. I wanted to some how capture this loss into my work so I revisited the old photos of our family and friends and came up with the idea of re-creating them but how we would act in them situation now. I presented my ideas to some fellow students and my tutors.

Out of the two ideas I was more enthusiastic about the germ idea, I think this is because i've wanted to do this for a very long time where as the second idea came to me more recently.
